Today marks the end of an era in not just the entertainment industry, but in our world at large. Today we’ve lost one of the greats, Robin Williams. His death is tragic, unexpected, and he will be missed by oh so many. But his legacies, his lessons, and his ideals will carry on with us as we move through our lives. The man spent his career making us laugh, cry, think, feel, and dare to dream and do things we’d never believe possible otherwise, all while touching the hearts of millions each and ever time. Robin Williams was a man who dared to be what so few people dare even to this day: unabridged, truly authenticate to himself down to his core, and it showed in every role he ever step foot in, in every interview he ever gave, and with every quote he ever spouted. In the summer it was just a tad too warm, and in the winter the temperature was always just right. I was struggling with the Photo Geeks Blog, trying to figure out how I can balance the photo side and geek side. But, The geek side of it started to take over, and I knew it was time to start a new project. (more…)

Iron Sky Movie Poster

An independent film that was initially released in 2012, Iron Sky is a satirical, tongue-in-cheek action movie with an over-the-top premise: an invasion of Earth by Space Nazis who live on the dark side of the moon. I feel that this movie deserves some additional recognition, so without further ado, I present a review of Iron Sky here on The Uncommon Geek.

Mjollnir

Despite many attempts to extinguish it throughout recorded history, “pagan” cultures and faiths, such as that embraced by the Norse peoples of Old World Scandinavia, continue to endure and even flourish in today’s world. Norse culture and mythology in particular is very often misunderstood, misinterpreted, and is rife with cliches that have little or no basis in reality. This weekend on The Uncommon Geek, join me for the first leg on a journey of exploration into a different realm of geeking out, one that is all about mythology, culture, heritage, and why the ideals of the Vikings endure even today.
